Comic Con RGB Gaming Competition
Crawford International Pretoria made a notable mark in the world of E-sports during the recent Comic Con RGB gaming competition in September. The event saw the participation of the school's Grade 6 and 7 esports team in the Minecraft RGB esports competition.
Competing in such a prestigious event is a testament to the growing significance of E-sports in educational institutions. E-sports not only serve as a platform for entertainment but also provide a unique opportunity for students to showcase their strategic thinking, teamwork, and digital skills.
Despite stiff competition, the young talents from Crawford International Pretoria managed to secure the coveted second place in the Minecraft RGB esports competition. This achievement reflects not only their dedication but also the school's commitment to promoting a well-rounded education that includes the world of gaming and digital technology.
Participation in such events not only fosters a competitive spirit but also encourages students to explore their interests and talents beyond traditional academic boundaries. It is events like these that demonstrate the evolving nature of education and the diverse opportunities available for students to excel and shine in their own unique ways. Crawford International Pretoria's success in the Comic Con RGB gaming competition is a celebration of both their gaming prowess and the recognition of esports as a legitimate and valuable part of education.
Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry
Grade 0 students at Pre-Primary kicked off their new Unit of Inquiry, "Sharing the Planet" (Central Idea – Life Forms), with an engaging Rock and Shock for Tuning In. Upon arriving at school, they were surprised to find trash scattered in their indoor learning environment, prompting confusion, and upset. The mystery deepened as different life forms were introduced, underscoring the importance of a clean environment for their well-being. In response, the students took immediate action, cleaning up and creating a safe space for the animals. Their concern for the creatures' well-being led to providing food, water, bedding, and designated areas for their needs.
One student, moved by the experience, requested a meeting with the principal to discuss both student and teacher behaviour related to littering. The principal, acknowledging the importance of student agency, promptly addressed the situation, fostering a collaborative approach to resolve the matter. This impactful Rock and Shock provided a valuable opportunity for reflection, encouraging responsible sharing of our planet among students and teachers alike.
Matric final assembly celebrated with Grade One and Grade Three.
At Crawford International Pretoria the Foundation Phase celebrated the end of the Grade 12’s school journey by participating in their final assembly. The Grade 1 students made special cards for every Grade 12 student, wishing them well with their exams. These students handed out their own hand-crafted cards to the matric students together with a messaged candle.
The Grade 3 students enthusiastically sang meaningful songs to the matriculants, wishing them ‘good luck’.
This was a touching occasion and appreciated by all.
Bucket Filling Foundation Phase Assembly
The Foundation Phase has enthusiastically embraced the notion of becoming "bucket fillers" among students. The concept of filling not only their own buckets but also the buckets of others has been extensively explored. Students are encouraged to exhibit thoughtfulness and empathy, using kind words and actions to fill each other's buckets. As part of an enjoyable activity, the students engaged in sorting out the words that contribute to filling our buckets.
They also took part in a bucket filling pledge and learned a song about filling buckets to remind them to actively contribute to this endeavour.
