When you hear the words ‘EFT’ and ‘Tapping’, you would naturally think about internet transfers and credit card payments. This is not that type of EFT and Tapping! What we’re talking about here is an energy therapy using ancient Chinese pressure therapy, combined with modern-day psychology treatment - and it’s a very popular alternative therapy for the treatment of stress and anxiety.
EFT is an acronym for Emotional Freedom Technique. It is a form of therapy that stimulates specific pressure or meridian points along the body using acupressure (pressure) or acupuncture (needles). Tapping is the method used in EFT therapy where five to seven taps, using the fingertips, are applied to the nine meridian or energy points of the body.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared stress the 21st-century epidemic. Stress is how the body reacts to changes caused by physical, emotional, or psychological circumstances and the stress hormone is called cortisol. Everyone experiences stress to some degree, such as anxiety, weight gain, sleeplessness, and depression and It’s also linked to many other physiological issues that cause pain and affect the immune system’s ability to fight antigens that cause infection.
A significant number of studies have been conducted internationally to prove the efficacy of EFT tapping. It is said to decrease the cortisol levels in the body, with the most substantial compelling evidence presented in PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression and anxiety patients. EFT tapping for kids has proven particularly effective in treating anxiety and fear.
Research suggests that this form of alternative therapy produces results quicker in children as they don’t carry as many emotional impediments as adults. This finding is especially comforting for those children suffering from anxiety and fear.
Using EFT tapping for anxiety and fear in kids works as they don’t get caught up in the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of their condition; they just want the symptoms to go away.
EFT tapping for kids requires the same approach as adults.
There are two types of EFT tapping: standard and clinical tapping.
Standard EFT tapping, used by most EFT practitioners, requires identifying the issue or concern. Patients are then asked to rate its intensity, develop a descriptive statement including a self-love or acceptance component, and tap each of the meridian or energy points five to seven times each.
The process is repeated until the intensity scale reduces.
Clinical EFT tapping on the other hand can only be done by an accredited EFT professional. Clinical EFT tapping cases are evidence-based and used to treat mental and psychological issues like PTSD, clinical anxiety and phobias. According to an article in Everyday Health, clinical EFT tapping is the only one validated in more than100 clinical trials.
So if your child is suffering from anxiety, stress and fear then look into EFT and tapping as an alternative treatment to help your children cope.
