Crawford International Fourways Honours 25 Years of Excellence with Birthday Celebration
On Friday, 10th of May, the Crawford Fourways community gathered to celebrate the school's 25th year anniversary with an occasion on the campus grounds. This event brought together students, parents, staff, alumni, and founding members for a day filled with festivities.
The story of Crawford International Fourways began in 1999 as a small 'farm' school located in a very different looking Fourways, where farm animals and wildlife were still in abundance. Starting with just Pre-Primary and Foundation Phase classes, the school soon expanded to include all grades. Today, Crawford International Fourways has grown into a thriving educational institution with 500 students who are ‘Free to Dream’. This dedicated team laid the groundwork for the successful school we know today, proudly situated in the heart of Fourways.
The celebrations featured a range of activities that delighted attendees of all ages. The day included music, delicious food, games, and activities for students to enjoy. The festivities culminated in the annual family braai evening, where parents joined in the celebration. One of the most memorable moments was hearing from alumni like Mathapelo Lehapa, now a Chartered Accountant, who said, “It is so difficult to pick one memory from my seven years at Crawford Fourways. The school really laid the foundation of who I am as a person today.” Long-serving staff member Alta Kriel, who has been with the school for 22 years, noted, “The return of past students to come and visit us, time and time again, is testimony to the unique nature and charm of Crawford Fourways. It has been this way for 25 years and it has been an absolute privilege for me to witness.”
The event also featured a special ceremony reflecting on the school's history and its transformation over the years. From its humble beginnings, Crawford Fourways now boasts a modern 21st-century campus with sports, arts, and culture programmes. In 2006, the school hall was built, marking another milestone as fourteen Grade 7 students passed through its hallways for the first time.
In October 2020, Crawford International Fourways was officially authorised as an International Baccalaureate World School (IB World School) offering the Primary Years Programme. This educational framework aligns with the school’s values and ethos, focusing on a child-centred approach where the student is at the heart of everything we do. “Our school is more than a community; it is a family-based school where relationships, engagement, and commitment have always been part of who we are,” said Deputy Principal Trudie Goodchild.
"We are incredibly proud of the history and legacy that Crawford International Fourways has built over the past 25 years," said Principal Shivani Sahadeo. “I am looking forward to taking our Primary Years Programme to new heights. This celebration is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and community members who have contributed to our success. We look forward to the future, where we aim to continue providing a safe space offering a global education, where our children can create lifelong memories and always feel welcome back home.”
Happy Birthday Crawford International Fourways!
