Who is Shivani Sahadeo?
Shivani's roots run deep in Durban, where she was raised in a bustling household alongside her parents, sister, and brother. Reflecting on her upbringing, she fondly shares, "I was born and raised in Durban, I come from a family of five, mom, dad, a sister, and a brother." This close-knit family instilled in her a profound appreciation for education and lifelong learning. She explains, “my family's influence on my career in education has been profound through our humble beginnings," she remarks. She attributes that their support laid the foundation for her journey in teaching and leadership roles within the education sector.
Professional Background
Shivani's journey in education is a testament to her passion for shaping young minds. "I started teaching and progressed to leadership roles within Crawford International and my journey has been deeply rewarding," she reflects. Her decision to join Crawford International was driven by its vibrant and diverse community, aligning with her educational beliefs. Over the years, she has transitioned from a Grade 3 Teacher to assuming the role of Deputy for the Foundation Phase and Pre-Primary. Through these experiences, she has gained valuable insights into early childhood education and development, shaping her approach to leadership.

"I have been involved in implementing various initiatives focused on promoting a positive school culture and student well-being," she explains. Central to her efforts is the value of collaboration, "I think the word 'collaboration' is such an important one for me," she emphasises. Connection with former Principal Mr Ian Rothman
Collaboration lies at the heart of Shivani's approach to leadership, as demonstrated through her partnership with the former principal, Ian Rothman. "Collaborating with Ian while we were both Deputy Principals has been integral to my tenure at Crawford International Pretoria," she acknowledges. Shivani and Ian previously worked together at Crawford International Pretoria. From Mr Rothman, she shares that she has learned the importance of a united team in cultivating a positive school ethos. She notes, "Ian's approach to leadership, which emphasises empowerment and teamwork, has taught me the value of involving stakeholders in decision-making processes.” These insights will guide her as she takes on her new role as the Principal, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in the school's mission.

Transitioning into her new role, she explains, "the handover process from Ian has been thorough and collaborative, emphasising continuity and shared understanding.” By staying in touch with current deputies and staff, she aims to establish a collaborative environment that prioritises effective communication and shared knowledge. This approach ensures a seamless transition and sets the stage for continued success within the school community.
