CANSA Sprayathon
Crawford International La Lucia hosted our annual Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Sprayathon, as a campus wide initiative.
Many students joined in the fun by having their hair sprayed in various colours in support of this wonderful cause as well as by donating cash in remembrance of loved ones lost to cancer, or to celebrate cancer survivors.
The organisation celebrated with a focus on kindness, and this tied in perfectly with our school-wide focus on kindness with the theme being “Be colourfully kind.”
As a campus, we raised R 23 347.70 in total! Our contribution will be used by CANSA to assist those affected by cancer, providing them with much-needed services.
PRE-PRIMARY
Have a Heart, Give a Sole
As part of the Pre-Primary Outreach Programme for 2024, and to show love and friendship for the less fortunate, our parents and students generously donated preloved shoes for the Domino Foundation.
The Domino Foundation works with more than 50 ECD centres and schools within our community. They believe in collaborating with other organisations who are working towards trying to make a difference.
Crawford La Lucia would like to thank all our families for their support towards our “Have a Heart, Give a Sole” initiative!
PREPARATORY
IB Day Hosted at Crawford International La Lucia
The International Baccalaureate (IB) held IB Day South Africa for the first time.
We were honoured to host the KwaZulu-Natal IB Day at Crawford International La Lucia Preparatory after being approached by the International Baccalaureate. This marked a significant milestone for our school, as we became the first and only school in KwaZulu-Natal to receive this recognition, sparking excitement throughout the Preparatory phase.
IB Day South Africa is run by the International Baccalaureate to introduce schools to an IB education, its benefits, and the global recognition of IB programmes. It gives interested parties the opportunity to learn more about the implementation of IB programmes in South Africa. We were proud to be a part of IB Day South Africa and to be a part of this global organisation.
Who We Are
At the end of February, our parents joined us in celebrating the learning journey of our Grade 1 students in the "Who We Are" transdisciplinary unit of inquiry!
Our Grade 1’s and their parents engaged in vibrant discussions about individual interests, attributes, and uniqueness. They collaborated in planning and creating expressive T-shirts symbolising each child's individuality. Through self-reflection and empathy, our students have embraced identity and compassion, fostering a caring and inclusive community.
COLLEGE
Star of Sea and Surf
At the end of February, Gabby Aromin showcased her skills at the 2024 Lifesaving South Africa Open Water Championships, held at Prime View Adventure & Leisure, Midrand. She not only secured victories in all her water events in the Junior Division, but also displayed prowess by claiming two victories in the Senior Division. Her outstanding performance earned her the prestigious title of National U17 Victrix Ludorum.
Furthermore, during the recent Kwa-Zulu Natal Lifesaving Championships, Gabby continued to shine, securing the 2nd and 3rd positions overall in the Junior Girls’ Division (U19) for Surf Swim and Run-Swim-Run, respectively.
This outstanding effort resulted in Gabby bringing home two silver medals and four bronze medals in total. Her standout performances have not gone unnoticed, as she has earned a well-deserved spot in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Lifesaving Team. Gabby will represent the province in the upcoming Inter-Provincial Tournament in Gqeberha on 4th-5th of May 2024.
Congratulations, Gabby, we wish you all the best for the upcoming tournament!
Poetry Festival
The recent Crawford International La Lucia College Poetry Festival was a celebration of creativity, it was layered in rhyme and rhythm.
Students shared varied performances, from stories about Cinderella, needing more time to play and just having fun to opinions about anxiety, politics, wanting to be heard and original work voicing the struggles and triumph of Gen Z.
CILL created the platform, students stepped up, voices rumbled, voices roared, voices were voiced, and it was AWESOME!
Our winners of the festival were as follows:

2nd Raiya Ambaram
3rd Humaira Ismail
Senior
1st Hannah Valiallah
2nd Kiasha Munsamy
