What did the road after school have in store for you?
Since leaving school, I have started studying a BA majoring in environmental studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. Additionally, I’ve started working at Islamic Relief South Africa, which is a global non-profit organization providing lifesaving aid to those most in need locally and internationally.
Why did you choose this career path?
Being someone who has always been passionate about humanitarian aid as well as the ongoing environmental challenges, I have taken up the opportunity of making my passions my career choice.
What is your goal going into this career?
It’s my dream to curb poverty in my own capacity and to be a solution to pollution.
What advice do you have for students wanting to go into this field of study?
Be passionate, be driven, be focused and never lose hope even when the sky seems unreachable.
Where do you see this industry going in SA?
Climate change is an ongoing pro-dominant challenge, and I see it becoming a bigger industry not only in our country but globally.
How has Crawford International helped in preparing you to achieve your goals after school?
Crawford International College Sandton gave me a platform to grow not only academically but allowed me to grow as the “ocean warrior” - an activist fighting against ocean pollution.
When we look at the environmental impact of our oceans, what does its future look like?
Our oceans are magnificent with majestic beauty. Even though it’s easy to feel paralysed in the face of such a huge problem to save our blue, I believe that it has ability to heal with the help of every individual.
Have you learnt some lessons being an ‘ocean warrior’?
Yes! Most definitely. Remember that without one drop in the ocean there will be no ocean, therefore, never believe that your small action does not count. It is important to remain positive and hopeful, and never give up on anyone or any situation. Keep trying to make our world a better place, one small deed at a time!
We know you care deeply for all the living, but are there some things you are passionate about outside your chosen career?
I am an adrenaline junkie! I enjoy jumping of planes and diving with sharks. Anything really to do with the outdoors is my cup of tea.
What has being an adrenaline junkie taught you?
Being an adrenaline junkie provides me with lifesaving humour, and unconquerable spirt and a fierce bravery to expose the ugly and painful but also see the beauty and silver lining.
