Marianthe Panas is a passionate and talented theatre performer living in London to pursue her dreams of becoming a West End actress and singer. With a deep love for Musical Theatre, Marianthe is a captivating force on stage and easily transports the audience on a journey filled with emotion and joy. As we check-in on Marianthe’s progress after school, we uncover a tale of dedication, creativity and the pursuit of artistic excellence.
1. Marianthe, tell us what the ‘big dream’ is?
I’ve always had a passion for singing and acting and my dreams took me across continents to the bustling London theatre scene, where I’m now studying at one of the most prestigious drama schools called ArtsEd which is funded by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote many successful musicals such as Joseph and his Technicolour Dream Coat, The Phantom of the Opera &
Cats to name a few.
2. What do you do now?
I have recently graduated from ArtsEd with a BA (Hons) degree in Musical Theatre and have signed with a prestigious agency in London. So, currently am keeping up with my training, auditioning for different parts as well as teaching private singing, and acting lessons.
3. When did you realise that Musical Theatre is what you wanted to do?
At the age of 14, I had a life-changing moment when I auditioned for the
Born to Perform showcase at the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg. It was during that audition that I performed Don’t Rain on My Parade by Barbara Streisand from the musical, Funny Girl. Stepping onto that stage, I felt an undeniable connection to music, and I knew that singing was my true calling and the path I wanted to pursue in life.
4. So you’ve been a drama queen since you were young?
Haha, I think yes and no actually. I was very shy as a child and found that I was more confident being than anything else. So, therefore I started singing at a young age and participated in drama classes and local productions. Over time I had the opportunity to perform with well-known artists and even made it to the Semi-Finals of South Africa’s Got Talent!
5. What does music mean to you?
Music is a way to express myself. I love musical theatre because I can become someone completely different and tell a story through song and dance.
6. What makes you stand out?
What often surprises people is my ability to sing across various genres. My reach is from a bottom D to a top C. Having received classical training from a young age, I have developed a versatile vocal range that allows me to perform in different languages and styles, including opera. Clink on the to see me in action.Link
7. You’ve recently released your debut single ‘Telos (Done with You)’, who inspired you?
I released Telos just before I left for the UK in 2020 and it’s a very special song to me because it’s a Greek-inspired song with some lyrics in Greek mixed with English. We even got a bouzouki player to record on the track. This is a traditional guitar used in Greek music. This song is the first I have done that combines English with my Greek heritage, and I felt very proud to release it. Watch the performance here

8. What advice do you have for students interested in pursuing a career in Musical Theatre?
Don’t give up! The industry is competitive, and you may face many rejections before finding success. It is important to have a thick skin as it can be physically and mentally challenging. Avoid comparing yourself to others and focus on your own journey.
9. Those are inspiring words. If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself?
Enjoy the memories you make and don’t stress too much. Cherish the moments spent with teachers, friends, and school activities because they’ll become the lyrics to your own musical theatre production.
10. How did Crawford International prepare you for your goals in Musical Theatre?
Crawford was instrumental in my preparation for the global stage. It offered a high standard of academics and a dedicated cultural department focused on showcasing students’ talents. M.r Nick Wium, former Head of Music, was my mentor who trained me vocally from the age of 9 years all the way to me matriculating. He provided countless opportunities for me to grow my abilities and performance techniques. Through performing in singing revues, drama shows, and various events, I gained confidence on stage and learned discipline and time management.
11. Apart from work, what other hobbies or passions do you have?
I’ve discovered a love for Pilates, and I enjoy going to the gym. These activities provide a different environment and help me relax and achieve personal goals.
12. What are your future plans?
I hope to continue living in London and pursue my dream of performing on the West End stage. I am also currently training to be a Pilates Instructor as well as teaching private singing and acting lessons while auditioning for various parts.
13. Anything else you’d like to add?
I’d like to thank Crawford for their support in my career outside of school and for accommodating my gigs. To all my teachers, thank you for your care and passion for teaching. I have fond memories of my time at Crawford, ones that will forever stay with me.
