Yoga Day Delight at Crawford International Sandton Preparatory

We had a fantastic time celebrating International Yoga Day at our school. It was heartening to see so      many students and parents joining in the fun on our field for a blissful yoga session. Thank you to everyone who participated – it truly made the day special Sandton Prep.

Mandela Day at Sandton Prep

We are truly touched and immensely proud of the kind-hearted spirit displayed by our beloved Crawford International Sandton Preparatory Community. In honour of Mandela Day, our students united in a wonderful gesture of giving back to the Fountain of Love Orphanage.

Our students came together to create delightful party packs for the children at the Fountain of Love Orphanage. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm from our community ensured the success of this heartwarming drive, resulting in the collection of over 250 party packs.

The Grade 1 pupils have incorporated Mandela Day into their Unit of Inquiry on Toys and will be having a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and then donating the teddies to The Teddy Bear Clinic. We are honoured to join hands with the Teddy Bear Clinic to help make a difference in the lives of children who have been traumatized by events in their lives beyond their control.

Market Day with a Difference

On a sunny day, the Crawford International Sandton Preparatory Grade 3s and Grade 0s students collaborated to create a wonderful Market Day event, filled with delicious treats, fun games, and a lively atmosphere.

This special event was part of their learning journey under the theme, 'How we Organise Ourselves'. It brought joy to all involved and served a greater purpose, raising a generous amount of R 4 590 for our long-standing charity partner, PADI, an organisation supporting people with disabilities.

We are immensely proud of our Grade 3s and Grade 0s students for their achievement and the positive impact they have made. A heartfelt thank you to all our parents for their generous contributions, making this day even more meaningful.

100 Days Strong: Celebrating a Century of Learning

On a cold morning of the 21st of July, our school was alive with excitement as we marked our 100th day of learning. Our little ones and teachers stepped into the roles of adorable grannies, grandpas, and creative representations of the number 100. From walking sticks to powdered grey hair, they brought boundless charm, reminding us of the limitless possibilities ahead on their educational journey.

A special shout-out goes to our incredible parents and guardians for their fantastic efforts in making this day unforgettable.

Let's raise a toast to countless more days of growth, learning, and treasured memories as we journey together towards a brighter future.

Term 2 Acts of Kindness at The Interact Humanities Board

In an act of compassion, our school embarked on a truly special giving back project during term 2. To bring a glimmer of happiness and warmth to the lives of the elderly residents, we chose to donate delightful cupcakes to a local nursing home. These treats were more than just baked goods; they were a symbol of love, care, and thoughtfulness.

Every cupcake was crafted with utmost care and adorned with vibrant frosting and cheerful sprinkles, ensuring that not only their taste but also their appearance would uplift spirits. The effect that the cupcakes had on the elderly residents was truly amazing. Many of them were thrilled to receive a sweet treat and we are thrilled to have been able to put a smile on their faces.

We believe that even small gestures can have a big impact. By taking a little bit of time to bake some cupcakes or visit a nursing home, you can make a real difference in someone's day.

A Guide To Parent Teacher Meetings The new academic term has just started a few weeks ago, and families with school-going children are settling into their routines. However, as students transition back to the classroom, another important aspect of the school calendar looms, parent teacher meetings. While these meetings are integral to nurturing strong collaboration between families and schools, they can also bring a mix of emotions, from curiosity to unease, for parents. In South Africa, where over 12 million students attend public and private schools (Department of Basic Education, 2023), the importance of such interactions cannot be overstated. These sessions offer invaluable insights into a child’s academic progress, social development, and overall well-being. What Are Parent Teacher Meetings? Parent teacher meetings are structured conversations between parents and their child’s teachers, aimed at discussing the student’s academic performance, behaviour, and overall development. These meetings create an opportunity for open communication, ensuring that both parties can collaborate effectively to support the student’s educational journey. They are not just a platform for addressing concerns but also for celebrating achievements and setting shared goals. What Do They Entail at Crawford? At Crawford International, parent teacher meetings are designed to be more than just routine check-ins. They reflect our commitment to fostering strong partnerships with families. During these sessions, parents meet with teachers to gain a holistic view of their student’s progress, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. Teachers share personalised feedback, highlight areas of growth, and discuss strategies to address challenges. These meetings are tailored to align with our ethos of developing well-rounded students, emphasising collaboration to ensure every child reaches their potential. How Often Are They? Parent teacher meetings at Crawford typically occur once per term, although additional sessions may be scheduled based on specific needs or requests. Regularity ensures that parents stay informed about their child’s journey throughout the academic year. These consistent touchpoints help to build trust and maintain a steady flow of communication between parents and teachers. How Best Should Parents Prepare for Them? Preparation is key to making the most of parent teacher meetings. Here are a few practical tips: Review Reports and Notes – before the meeting, review any recent academic reports, test results, or communication from the school. This provides a foundation for meaningful discussions. Prepare Questions – jot down specific questions or concerns you want to address. For example, ask about areas where your child excels or struggles and how you can support them at home. Engage with Your Child – have a conversation with your child about their experiences at school. Understanding their perspective can provide valuable context for the meeting. Be Open-Minded – approach the meeting with a collaborative mindset. Remember, the goal is to work together with the teachers to support your child’s growth. Take Notes – during the meeting, take notes on key points discussed, including recommendations from teachers. This ensures you can follow through on agreed actions. Parent teacher meetings are more than a requirement; they are an investment in a child’s future. By approaching these sessions with preparation and a collaborative spirit, parents can play an active role in shaping their child’s educational journey. As families across South Africa embrace this vital part of the school experience, let’s work together to make each interaction meaningful and impactful.
