North Coast’s Music Maestro Secures Another Medal
Crawford International North Coast is home to some exceptional musicians playing multiple instruments, many studying the subject through to Grade 12. Manzil Harikaran-Giandev, a Grade 10 student at Crawford International North Coast, recently competed in the Queensburgh Music Festival in three categories - Piano, Classical Guitar, and Drum Kit. The KZN Youth Orchestra drummer won two gold medals, with the highest marks awarded for both drumming and classical guitar. Manzil is also a keen violinist and has been playing music since Grade 2. It has been a fantastic year for the young musician, as he also won gold for drumming at the recent Eisteddfod, held during the Term 3 holidays. When he isn’t busy with his music, Manzil loves mathematics! In this year’s Maths Olympiads, his team placed first in KZN and Manzil as an individual placed as a Top 5 student. We all need time out to relax and for Manzil he loves to listen to and play rock drums, especially Phil Collins who is his all-time favourite drummer.
Crawford North Coast Talents Shine: From UltraSwim Triumph to Hockey and Soccer Success
Crawford International North Coast boasts exceptional talents across various disciplines. In the realm of long-distance swimming, 15-year-old Grade 9 student Shane Van Der Linde is making waves. Having recently conquered the UltraSwim marathon in Montenegro, Shane covered an impressive 33.3km over four days. His dedication to training, an astonishing eight times a week, has not hindered his academic achievements, maintaining a noteworthy 75% aggregate. As he eyes the 2026 Commonwealth Games and dreams of representing South Africa at the Olympics, Shane remains focused on both his athletic pursuits and academic excellence, aspiring to forge a career as a physiotherapist.
Meanwhile, another Crawford standout, Grade 9 student Tayyah Dookie, is making her mark on the hockey and soccer fields. A key member of the KZN Country District Hockey Team and the North Durban District ladies soccer team, Tayyah's prowess extends to Crusaders hockey and KZN Starlings Football Club. Juggling multiple responsibilities with finesse, she proudly sports full academic colours, maintaining an impressive A aggregate. These stories of athletic talent and academic excellence underscore Crawford North Coast's commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.
Owen Kuyper Cricket Festival
There was great excitement at Crawford International North Coast recently as the school hosted the annual Owen Kuyper Cricket Festival at its beautiful campus in Westbrook, near Ballito. Participating in the event were teams from Crawford International Preparatory schools from around the country. The first-class event afforded a wonderful opportunity for boys and girls from different Crawford schools to meet and connect, all while playing some exceptional cricket! Despite some weather challenges the two-day event was a resounding success, and everyone in attendance had a wonderful experience. A special thank you goes out to sponsors SMG South Africa, Club Marine, and Aqua Bru for their invaluable support, partnering with Crawford International North Coast to ensure the event's success.
