An Unforgettable Picnic
On Thursday, 8th August we hosted our memorable picnic that brought our community together. Wrapped in a blanket, enjoying my snacks, we watched the artists perform on stage and felt completely content.
The evening was filled with lively energy. One moment that stood out was watching two toddlers dancing with their mom. One child, with a balloon sword, playfully tapped his sister on the head with each spin. It was a small but delightful scene amidst the festivities.
In front of the stage, Prep students showed off their dance moves, fully immersed in the music. It was heartwarming to see their joy and enthusiasm.
The picnic featured a variety of activities, from food stalls to carnival rides. Ms Purkiss and students mingled while swaying to the music, and Ms Maharaj, the event organiser, was seen enjoying the scene. The Grade 9 entrepreneurs were busy selling their goods and playing games.
The turnout was impressive, with more attendees than last year. Despite the crowded parking lot, everything ran smoothly thanks to the hard work of the security and support staff.
Saving Lives One Drop at a Time
On Friday, 2nd August, Crawford International Sandton College, in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), hosted its third and final blood drive for 2024.
We were amazed by the turnout from staff, students, and parents, achieving our highest number of donors yet: a total of 60 donations, helping 180 people. Among the donors were 13 first-time contributors, 13 staff members, and 6 parents, along with returning donors from Grades 10, 11, and 12. We are incredibly proud of everyone who participated; their generosity will help save lives.
We extend our thanks to SANBS for their professional and caring service and to all our participants, especially the first-time donors who were understandably nervous.
We look forward to the continued success of this event at our next blood drive in 2025.

Peer-to-Peer Teaching at Fidelitas
Grade 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to teach Mathematics to Grade 8 students at Fidelitas Secondary School on selected Saturdays throughout the year.
These lessons are highly beneficial for improving Mathematics results and provide Grade 10 and 11 students with valuable communication and interpersonal skills.
A typical tutoring day starts at 07h45 with a bus journey to Fidelitas Secondary School in Soweto. Students are divided into groups of two or three tutors and placed in classes with 10-20 Grade 8 students. Two tutoring sessions follow, during which students take a test on the concepts taught. Tutors mark these tests, track progress, and offer improvement tips.
Afterwards, tutors reflect on the day and plan for the next session. We hope many Grade 9 students will join this rewarding experience next year. Peer-to-peer teaching also counts towards internal service hours, with each tutor earning 5.5 hours for their participation.
